Mizuma & Kips is pleased to announce the opening of “The Hanging Village” a solo exhibition by artist Eileen Weitzman.

Upon entering Eileen Weitzman's studio, I experienced the artist's engagement in an alternative reality that, at the same time, reflects our real-time reality. The works presented here were produced over a number of years yet capture this moment in America -- our reality of living in a perpetually surreal state. I see America as though a curtain has been pulled back revealing a concealed reality or the covered-up insanity of our times. These visionary art objects do not compete with our horrific real time daily events. They do not need to, and, of course, they are not horrific and instead these mixed media works offer symbolic suggestions and directions, movement and color. They are in good company with works by artists Nellie Mae Rowe, Bill Traylor and Prophet Royal Robertson. ---- John Moore

Born in Chicago, Eileen Weitzman was educated as an attorney but taught herself art. She currently lives in Brooklyn. Her works have been exhibited in the United States and internationally. She is the recipient of several fellowships and grants and has taught art and lectured in the United States and Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
